The Parish Council, working with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT), has installed a GSM-operated floodlight on the Launds playing field opposite the village hall in Chittlehamholt.
This enables the site to be illuminated and used during the hours of darkness as a Community Landing Site for the Devon Air Ambulance. The installation of the night landing site in Chittlehamholt will provide the following benefits to the local community:
- the Air Ambulance can reach the residents of the village until midnight every day (an extra 7.5 hours’ service during the darker winter months) and beyond when DAAT extend their operations in the future
- the Air Ambulance will be able to convey patients to the most appropriate hospital for their needs, not necessarily the nearest (DAAT did this for 29% of the people they airlifted in 2016)
- DAAT’s highly skilled advanced paramedics can deliver enhanced pre-hospital clinical care to those people facing more complex medical conditions or trauma
- it will also benefit those living in nearby villages or farmsteads, who would be brought to the landing site for onward transfer, or people involved in collisions on the nearby roads
This facility was part-funded by the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, grants from North Devon Council and Devon County Council, and Parish Council funds. For more information about the Air Ambulance and Community Landing Sites please visit www.daat.orgor speak to your Parish Councillor.
